I enjoyed this book. Christie & Zee are so much in love. It was great to follow there love story through all it's troubles and kept me wondering if they would survive. I did wish the lovemaking was a little more detailed but it's a great book if you are not into that. I love historical romance. A most definite read again book.

Christie and the Hellcat edition by Barbara Davies Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Barbara Davies. What can I say she is one Hell of a story teller! Set in the old west, mixed with a little lesbian love. If you are looking for a feel good lesbian love story, this is it! A rare, just all around good book, one I could not put down. I say read it!
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE to have whores as key characters and a brothel as a key setting... and only a G-rating on the sex scenes?? lol.

Even with a horndog butch deputy (who lives in this brothel, no less), don't expect anything more graphic than a pat on the rear. This book is way tame.

And yet there was some life here. The characters mostly live in the second dimension and are cartoonish caricatures of the old western world with a couple of openly gay lesbos thrown in. Suspend disbelief required here bigtime, lol.

Our lead butch ("Hellcat") is a former outlaw turned deputy after she is pardoned for her sins. Yet beyond this one 'flaw' she is perfect and good and saves the day drama after drama with her little devoted blonde at her side. While the plots are well-constructed and the characters lively, there is nothing complex about plot or characters. All is very predictable. For this reason I struggled to get into the book. But somewhere about halfway through, I found myself thinking about these characters and chuckling after I'd put the book down and then I finished it rather quick thereafter.

I appreciated the loving and lusty relationship between these two, and I especially appreciated that Zee wasn't even trying to pass as a man even though she dressed in men's clothes. And I definitely appreciated her little blonde, lol. But these leads hooked up way too fast and I'd of liked to see more of a chase... and more resistance from the blonde. This author seemed to be in a hurry to establish them as close and married.

Admittedly, I also appreciated the whores, lol. All the nicknames they had were especially humorous. And a butch who appreciates them (as much as a well-bred virgin) is just one of those irresistable bits of characterization I enjoy when I come across it. This would make a great little movie... a guilty pleasure with lots of eye candy... not unlike that campy girlie western Bad Girls with Madeline Stowe and Drew Barrymore, ha ha. But as a book it was rather simple and I found it unfortunate these characters never made it beyond the 2nd dimension. This is pure cartoon camp with a dash of charm.... at best, an amusing celebration of western stereotypes with a couple of lezzies thrown in as a distinguishing element. However, I wouldn't stick around for the sequel unless the butch became a little less ridiculously heroic... and definitely not until there was some actual sex next time around.... ;)
I first read 'Christie and the Hellcat' on a fan fiction website and loved it so much I was anxious to buy it in paperback form. The talented Barbara Davies has delivered a delightful lesbian fiction story set in the Old West. It includes a wild cast of characters, including

- Deputy Sheriff Zee Brodie, a breathtaking woman pardoned by the Governor for her crimes as the infamous Hellcat.

- Miss Christie Hayes, still an innocent who finds herself under the Hellcat's spell.

- Bluford Hayes, Christie's brother

- Fred Younger, Christie's wealthy yet spoiled (ex)fiance

- The ladies of the local brothel who are more human and caring than one might think.

- A colorful nun from a remote orphanage

- And many others

Davies brings all these folk together with a great synergy, keeping the reader interested and engaged through all four parts of the book. Each character has his or her own story within the book. Even so, Davies enlists her talent to pull the whole thing off without confusing the reader.

Very enjoyable book. Recommended accompaniments are a tall glass of sasparilla and a warm summer day.
A favorite of mine. I like a good western with women as the main characters. Plenty of action on the range.
This is what a great story is all about,it makes me always wondering why there are,so many writers, choose for
just simple a romantic story, and none of this.
I love this,it's about a tough girl, who get help from the sister of a guy, who's house she could use to hide, from
a couple desperadoes, because she has one of them arrested, but he isn't at home when she arrives at that address, instead a beautiful girl, opens the door.
What happens from that moment on,you have to read for yourself,so,I want to scream to all writers, more westerns, please,I really don't understand, why, nobody writes great stories like this, every lesbian likes Xena,it's
time, that rebel girls and tough to fight everyone are coming back!
My advise buying this book!
I enjoyed this book alot. What would you do if you found yourself face to face with a known woman outlaw? Hellcat is so famous they wrote penny novels about her. This is what poor Christie must decide at the beginning of this book. Then what would you do if you were attracted to the Hellcat? And how will you get out of a wedding you did not want in the first place?
And if you are the Hellcat how do you balance your life from the past with your present and maybe your future?
Lots of fun for me this book. Thanks Barbara Davies, I will be keeping this book in my library.
